Sad to see 2 of Scotland's golfing greats having a bit of a fallout in the media. Monty isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he's been one of the true Ryder cup greats over the years. Sandy Lyle has an incredible record in one of the most competitive sports around and has played his part in Ryder cup history.
I only took up golf a couple of years ago, and despite my protestations that I'm much better than a 28 handicapper, still haven't managed to get enough cards in to justify a cut - and it's really starting to get to me now that I can't get off that mark...
It's an incredible sport though. As allegorical for life as any sport ever could be, the golfer not only has to contend with the course conditions but his own mental state and dealing with the consequences of his own immediately earlier actions i.e. the shot that he just played that didn't come out the way envisioned.
I'm hoping for good weather this week to show of Turnberry and Scotland at it's very best. Hopefully Sandy and Monty can put this spat behind them and the Europeans will put on a show to worry the Yanks for later in the year, although it's difficult to see past Tiger for this one.
Ding dong merrily on high.
